RIP Wally Burrows

Updated: 6 days ago

Walter ‘Wally’ Burrows passed away peacefully on the evening of the 23rd June. Wally as he liked to be called, was Tarring Priory through and through. He always carried himself with an air of correctness and precision, because that was who he was.

At Priory the sheer volume of tasks he undertook for his beloved club are too many to list here – the original changing room conversions, building the bar, Club Captain 1999 & 2008, Club President 2010-14, Welfare officer and much more besides.

For many years he and his wife Moyna supported the club by running the 50 Club, this raised hundreds even thousands of pounds over the years which the club could use. Moyna sadly passed away before Wally leaving a massive void in his life, yet he continued to live with dignity and presented one of the Ladies Championship Singles trophies to the club in her memory.

More than anything else, Wally was a bowler of great skill and tenacity. One of the highlights of his very successful career included winning the Stocker Cup – a Worthing Bowling Association Singles Title. At Tarring Priory his Singles Titles collection included the Sets Singles 1997, 2 Wood Singles 1995, 1999, Handicap Singles 2012, Veterans 2005, 2010 and the Committee Singles on 5 occasions

Wally was indeed a Priory legend, one who can never be replaced, RIP Wally Burrows

Details of funeral arrangements will be posted here once known
