Tarring Priory Bowls Club had their finals weekend on the 5th & 6th September and of the 48 competitors there were 29 different players with 12 players making their first appearance. The weather was kind both days.

Roger Dutton and Ian Robertson qualified for 4 finals each with mixed results over the two days.

Roger and Mark Harwood won the Handicap Pairs against Butch Shakespeare and Linda Harwood, Butch followed this up with a win in the Knock Out Fours with Ray Baker, Simon Rusbridge and Stan Birch defeating John Schools, Phil Saunders, Ray Lister and Lindas Lazzaro. Stan had earlier won the Aussie pairs with Ian Robertson defeating Bex Bull and Stuart Logan, Stuart had better fortune in the 2 wood Triples winning with Phil Saunders and Dennis Doody when beating Nick Eager, Simon Rusbridge and Jamie Bull

Nick with pairs partner Chris Ide took the Championship Pairs against Roger and Mick Meadows.

Ian lost to Derek Meechan in the Handicap Singles and Derek went on to make it 2 of 2 wins in the Veterans beating Roger. Ian the went on to win the 2 wood pairs with Hugh Rowlings against Ray Baker & Roger and then went on to win the 2 wood singles against Mark.

Mark won the Set singles against Stuart Shwartz and in the ‘Never won singles’ Mark Deacon beat Trevor Puttick

The Phoenix Trophy (Skills competition for new bowlers) was won by Roberto Schiano with Martin Bashford as the runner up, this was a reversal of the Spoons league which Martin won and Roberto came second.

Keith Brinsmead won the Committee singles beating Amber Logan but did not fair so well in the Men’s Championship singles where he lost to Chris Ide.

The Women’s Championship Singles was played early due to a competitor not able to play at finals weekend and in a close 21 to 20 victory Linda Harwood edged out Judie Chambers.

A special mention to our ladies of the club who all managed to reach Finals weekend showing how they are a force to be reckoned with and we are looking for more ladies to join us so as to strengthen and improve even more.
